African Parrot Pictures and Descriptions
Senegal Parrot
The
Senegal Parrot is one of the smaller of the African parrots. It might be grouped with the Meyers Parrot and the Red Bellied Parrot. As are most of the African parrots, the Senegal Parrot is not a noisy type of parrot. For this reason, it is a very good choice for people that live in apartment buildings or any other type of residence that includes multiple dwellings where noise might be a problem.
Reaching a total length of only about 9 inches, this little parrot is very big on personality. It is playful, inquisitive, and affectionate. It can be a pretty good talker, although the voice is very quiet and small. The color on the lower chest can be either golden yellow or orange depending on the subspecies. The bird pictured here is a baby. As he matures, the orange in front will come up higher until it is at about the middle of his his chest.
This type of parrot does very well with children if socialized and given affection as a baby. The baby pictured, Twinkie, is now living with his new family and is owned by Matt, a 14 year old boy in Harvard, Ill.
